I Scream, You Scream

I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream! . . . and this doesn't seem like ice cream!

I haven't been inside a Wal-Mart in over a decade, so all I can do is offer what I knew then, and a link for further current confirmation.  I remember noticing the store brand of ice cream had a strange texture or presence when appearing to melt . . . It just didn't melt like regular ice cream.

At one point in the questioning, the spokesperson actually said products with more cream melt slower.  That is propaganda at best, and really is deception.  Perhaps the spokesperson isn't being dishonest and simply doesn't know what they are talking about.

I make my own ice cream now with raw milk containing a natural percentage of butter fat.  It melts pretty quickly.

This Made Me Go "Hmmm . . ."

In reading the article about subway going halal in some areas, the responses have been mixed of course, according to political leaning.  As I continued to read, two things crossed my mind.  One, it makes good business sense to serve food preferences of the local demographics.  I mean, there's probably not many local restaurants in New England that feature grits on the breakfast menu.

The other issue that crossed my mind, however; was one of shame.  Why haven't the Bible believers been vocal enough to inspire this sort of change?  I mean basically now, we have unhappy customers who will boycott these restaurants that are now serving, kosher but offered to a false god.  I don't want to eat anything that has been prayed over to a false god, but I am sad that those of us who serve the G-d of Israel are not as effective in our stand.  I would love to patronize a restaurant that was bold enough to actually serve a Biblical menu.

It's a Theory

I'm going to pick on the soybean.  When considering food, especially grains and vegetables, we may prefer them cooked, but grains and vegetables are safe to eat raw.  Soybeans are not.  A raw soybean is toxic.

Soybeans contain phytoestrogen and the statistics vary as to whether soybean consumption can affect hormone levels.

Soybeans are also genetically modified and the name Monsanto comes up frequently in the research.

Although some research says soybeans do not alter hormone levels, there are warnings issued for women who have had breast cancer.  Some studies say it helps prevent cancer, others say it is a carcinogen.   In researching various subjects in investigative journalism, this reporter has found statistics usually "prove" whatever the original research is aiming to prove by carefully inclusion and exclusion of variables.

Now for my theory.  Soy has been introduced into the food supply in the past 50 years, and is now also genetically modified.  Is it possible that soy in the diet right down to baby formula could be a factor in earlier puberty for girls and more effeminate boys?  What if soy in the baby formula does affect the development of the child?  What if phytoestrogen in soy baby formula is actually contributing to the theory that someone is "born gay?"

Natural and Local

There is an economic consideration to buying natural food locally!

Stephen Colbert

Even though I have never seen his program, I am a fan of Stephen Colbert.  I enjoy a short video clip of his every month or so.  An old idiom says "there is truth in wit."  This gentleman seems to rarely miss an opportunity to prove that adage.

Programing and Marketing or Coincidence?

What Do Barbie, Diet Pills, and Artificial Sweeteners Have in Common?

I really hadn't considered this before, but Barbie, diet pills, and cyclamates all entered the world about the same time, which is about the same time I arrived on the scene, as well!  This Big Biz, Big Pharma thing has been going on, my entire life!

Fabricate an impossible image, manufacture a magic pill, and provide the poison!  Be sure it's wrapped in programming, though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_cyclamate#History  1958 (Generally Recongized as Safe)

Cyclamate was discovered in 1937 at the University of Illinois by graduate student Michael Sveda. Sveda was working in the lab on the synthesis of anti-fever medication. He put his cigarette down on the lab bench, and, when he put it back in his mouth, he discovered the sweet taste of cyclamate

The patent for cyclamate was purchased by DuPont but later sold to Abbott Laboratories, which undertook the necessary studies and submitted a New Drug Application in 1950. Abbott intended to use cyclamate to mask the bitterness of certain drugs such as antibiotics andpentobarbital. In the US in 1958, it was designated GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe). Cyclamate was marketed in tablet form for use by diabetics as an alternative tabletop sweetener, as well as in a liquid form; one such product was named 'Sucaryl' and is still available in non-US markets.

Lab Grown Meat

At what point do we stop?  Is there a limit?  Is there a boundary in place at all?  Meddling with creation, be it with GMO fruits and vegetables or now this lab grown meat product has to be of great offense to our Creator.  How dare we?  Who do we think we are?

Not a Necessity

In this economy, I realize many people are struggling, but we need to step back and take a serious look at this situation.  EBT is not just food stamps or SNAP, but there should be some sort of accountability as to where these cards can be used or not used.  Eligibility usually is established by dependant children in the home.  Dependent children have no need for alcohol, tobacco, casino tokens, or sexy lingerie!

Food and shelter are necessities.  Clothing is a necessity, including underwear and sleepwear; but a line has clearly been crossed.  When a family cannot use food stamps to purchase soap, tooth paste, or toilet tissue, because they are not "necessities;" I cannot understand how any government subsidy can be used to shop for unnecessary unmentionables!

WARNING:  This link is the news report, but links within the report displays the store's website with revealing images.

Groceries

We've got to start doing our homework before we go shopping.  Much of what is being stocked on grocery shelves is not really food.  Please check out the link below as to what we are allowing our children to drink.
